3. Paychecks won’t determine who starts

We watched this attitude resonate with the team last season and it has only been reinforced so far throughout camp. Atlanta is not hesitating to bench higher-paid players or draft picks in favor of who is playing at the highest level. They have also made it clear they will are willing to cut anyone not contributing at a high level regardless of their contract.

Dante Fowler Jr. and Mike Davis are recent examples of this attitude. Both players were cut with the team opting to bring in players they believe could contribute on a higher level adding to their already massive dead cap hit.

This new approach is the exact tone Atlanta has needed to set since their 2016 run. The team continued to run out the same players who gave them that success regardless of whether or not they were still getting the job done.

Not being afraid to quickly pivot off of a starter is going to allow the Falcons to better evaluate their complete roster and perhaps find surprise contributors ahead of a 2023 off-season when the team is expected to make a push to contend.
