Understandably the Atlanta Falcons headlines this off-season have centered around Kyle Pitts, Cordarrelle Patterson, Desmond Ridder, Marcus Mariota, and Drake London. The Atlanta offense is undergoing a huge change and with it fans expectations and the players they will be paying close attention to.

Within these headlines, one player continues to be forgotten, Bryan Edwards. Already Edwards is being overlooked and forgotten by many and that is exactly where he needs to be. Edwards will often be forgotten in the Atlanta offense in favor of flashier playmakers who will garner the defensive attention.

Edwards will be in a unique role with the snaps to make plays consistently without the defensive focus he would have received last season. For once being forgotten is going to be an asset for Edwards as he will continually make plays and become a safety net when the defense is focusing their attention on Pitts or London.

This will be Bryan’s first real opportunity at playing a starting role. With the Raiders Edwards was often the 4th or 5th option for a team loaded with options for veteran Derek Carr. While Atlanta added depth Edwards is still easily the team’s second-best option and should start alongside Drake London.

Atlanta’s third receiver is still very much in question as the team continues a competition throughout the preseason. While Olamide has the inside track it wouldn’t be surprising if he is replaced if his competition flashes in the next two preseason games. Olamide had his chance at a starting role last season and underwhelmed.

That is the role Bryan Edwards will be looking to fill while Drake London replaces Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage who served as Atlanta’s number one options last season. Edwards is going to thrive in Atlanta on a team where he will often be the forgotten man.
