The Atlanta Falcons’ second preseason action of the year was a tale of two halves with Atlanta dominating the first half before inserting their third team. With Feleipe Franks at quarterback and the third team defense, the Jets completed the comeback scoring 24-straight points and winning the game 24-16.

The Falcons had a late chance to tie the game with Franks driving the team inside the ten only to throw four consecutive head-scratching passes. Franks might be able to contribute to this team but it certainly won’t be with his arm this season.

Perhaps the most exciting part of this game for Atlanta was how the defense stood up and forced punt after punt in the first part of this game. Getting consistent pressure on Mike White and forcing bad decisions or poor throws.

Atlanta’s defensive intensity and effort were noticeably different even in a preseason game it was noteworthy. You can feel the difference in this team from last season the intensity and focus with which they play is a step in the right direction and speaks to Arthur Smith’s coaching ability.

Aside from the defensive performance and Franks passing struggles, there were notable positive performances from four Falcons in particular on Monday night. Players fighting to cement their roles heading into a season in which they will continually be tested and doubted.
