1. Feleipe Franks

Feleipe Franks was set up for failure in Atlanta’s last preseason game being thrown in at quarterback after spending most of camp at tight end. Not only was he thrown into game action with little practice the weather was miserable in New York and Franks’ awful game certainly wasn’t helped by the poor conditions.

When Franks was able to get out of the pocket he was fun to watch using his speed to pick up extra yards and seeking out contact at the end of runs. As a pure runner with the football in his hands, Franks can make things happen.

However, there is no excusing his awful passing and poor decision-making against the Jets on Monday night. For every fun moment, there was an ugly one for Franks who is fighting for a roster spot as a utility player.

So far through the preseason, Franks has one five-yard catch at tight end and an awful game at the quarterback position. I believe Franks is going to make this roster based on his ability as a scrambler and Arthur Smith’s fondness for using players in a utility role. However, Franks needs to do something to wipe away the ugly game against the Jets if he wants to lock down a roster spot.
