1. Cutting Qadree Ollison and Caleb Huntley

It was thought that Ollison and Huntley were competing for the final depth role behind Cordarrelle Patterson and Damien Williams. Rookie Tyler Allgeier seemed to be guaranteed a depth role on the team but it was thought that Huntley or Ollison could still make this roster. Instead, the team cut both running backs heading into the season with Patterson, Williams, and Allgeier as their only real options in the backfield.

Fullback Keith Smith is still on the roster as well but he isn’t a true rushing option outside of an emergency situation.  In truth cutting both backs was the right decision for a team that desperately needs to find a reliable rushing attack outside of Patterson creating his own yards. Going with a duo of Williams and Allgeier is the right decision for the team. One or both of Ollison or Huntley could be back this season if Atlanta deals with an injury, however, to start the season neither player deserved a roster spot.

Atlanta needs to focus on developing rookie Allgeier and using Williams to help keep Patterson healthy deep into the season. Ollison and Huntley both had solid moments in the preseason but lacked the consistency to make this roster.
