3. Baker Mayfield

This season will define Baker Mayfield’s career and whether or not he has a future as a franchise quarterback. A great season from Mayfield likely results in Carolina locking the quarterback up, however, with Matt Rhule at the helm it isn’t out of the question a good season could result in Mayfield hitting the open market. If Marcus Mariota isn’t an answer at the position and the Falcons believe Ridder needs more time Mayfield could be a great option next season.

While he is coming off of a rough season he does have a history of helping cursed franchises return to relevance. He accomplished this with the Browns last season now if he is able to pull the Panthers into late-season relevance the Falcons will be paying close attention.

Mayfield much like Lamar is a very unlikely fit but a player who is scheduled to hit free agency next off-season and looks to be the best starter in his class. While Tom Brady will hit free agency as well it is hard to count the veteran considering he will likely retire or pick his own team and that isn’t going to be a young Atlanta roster.  Jimmy G and Baker Mayfield will be the best quarterbacks to hit free agency next off-season and Baker makes a level of sense for Atlanta if they believe they can build a strong roster around him and Ridder doesn’t appear to be ready.
