The Atlanta Falcons have a lot of belief in Darren Hall and Dee Alford

Last year the Falcons started the season with Isaiah Oliver as their primary slot corner. He played well up until his season-ending injury against the Giants and from then on it was obvious that the team was missing him due to the poor play of his replacements.

Going into this season everyone kind of assumed that Oliver would be right back in the same position starting in week one but the Falcons put him on IR which means he will miss at least four games. It was an unfair assumption because as we all know, everybody is different when recovering from injuries, and obviously he is not fully healed quite yet.

During his absence last year there were three guys who took the bulk of the snaps for him, those being Richie Grant, Darren Hall, and Avery Williams. None of them played well at all, but to be fair they were all rookies.

Well now, Avery Williams is a running back and Richie Grant is bound to be starting at safety, meaning Darren Hall is the only one left of the three main slot corners from last year.

If they planned on Richie Grant taking a bunch of snaps in the slot then they would have more depth behind him, so clearly he will not be the go-to nickel corner. Obviously, he is a versatile player and will end up playing in the slot at times but we are talking about the majority of the time.

This leaves us with Darren Hall and Dee Alford as really the only remaining options and they seemingly are not worried about it at all.

Both of these guys have been excellent to this point but we need to see them perform in meaningful games. If the coaches had any doubt about either of them then they would have brought in a proven veteran or even another safety allowing Grant to play in the slot.
