3 Atlanta Falcons who shouldn’t have made the final roster
By Nick Halden
1. Feleipe Franks
Feleipe Franks moving to tight-end was one of the more interesting stories throughout the Atlanta Falcons training camp. Franks made multiple nice catches during camp and showed an impressive ability for a quarterback attempting to move positions. Franks was one of the top players to watch in the preseason and would have been a great story if he could have changed positions and made an impact in the preseason.
Instead, Franks managed a five-yard catch and a terrible game at quarterback. Atlanta gave Franks time at both positions and he did nothing to show he could make an impact at either. Franks was lost at quarterback unable to complete a pass inside the ten with four chances and none of the four were close.
It is clear that Franks isn’t a quarterback at this level and he didn’t show he can play tight-end at a high level so why is he on this roster? Atlanta cut players who showed far more throughout the preseason and would have given the Falcons some value off the bench. It is hard to see Franks giving any meaningful contributions this season, Atlanta would have been better off cutting Franks and keeping a player who could contribute or bringing in a veteran quarterback who could help Mariota and Ridder.
