The New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons went two different directions with how they managed terrible cap situations this off-season. The Falcons opted to move or cut all of their bad contracts eating over $64-million dollars in dead cap and setting the team up to make blockbuster moves next off-season. The Saints on the other hand moved salaries to the future moving the bill up for at least another year giving them a chance to make impact additions and have a chance at competing.

New Orleans did a great job of delaying paying the cap issues they have piled up during the Sean Payton and Drew Brees era. Brees has been retired for two years while Payton stepped away at the end of this season.

It appears that Payton stepped away with the intention of teaming up with Tom Brady in Miami. While there hasn’t been official confirmation of this the lack of denials speaks loudly. It is unfortunate for the Falcons in a move that would have seen their two biggest division foes leave the conference altogether.

New Orleans is now Dennis Allen’s team, a group with plenty of new faces that Atlanta will have to find a way to slow down on Sunday including an exciting rookie receiver.
