The Atlanta Falcons have a prime opportunity in week three to get their first win of the season and give the team new life. Starting 0-3 all but ends the season even now sitting at 0-2 the Falcons are going to be fighting an uphill battle all season long to put themselves in fringe wildcard contention.

While the Falcons aren’t going to be a serious playoff team this season there is a path to becoming a wildcard contender much as Atlanta did last season. While Marcus Mariota is a clear downgrade from Matt Ryan the Falcons have improved the roster at nearly every other position and look better than they did at any point last season.

Last year Atlanta would have let go of the rope against the Rams and put in Josh Rosen or Franks at quarterback protecting Ryan. This team charged back and had a legitimate chance to beat a superior team on the road.

It is this level of intensity and will that makes Atlanta the clear week three pick over the Seahawks. Seattle has already won their game of the year when they took down Russell Wilson in week one.

This week Marcus Mariota is going to be carried by Kyle Pitts and Cordarrelle Patterson and make just enough plays with his legs to put pressure on Geno Smith and the Seattle offense and help Atlanta put this game away early.

While the Falcons will be feeling the pressure until the final minutes tick off the clock it will go down as a blowout win for Atlanta and an indication that despite how they finish this year the Falcons are heading in the right direction and Arthur Smith has finally learned how to hold a lead.
