Atlanta Falcons offense, defense, special teams played as one
One of the fun parts of football is that you have three phases of the game — offense, defense, and special teams — and when they all work together, it usually results in a win and that is exactly what happened for the Atlanta Falcons in week three.
This was a game they needed to have as they were playing an opponent who isn’t exactly a favorite to make the postseason.
Starting out 0-2 was not ideal but now we are one win away from being .500, and for that to happen they will need to have a similar performance against the Cleveland Browns.
All three phases complimented each other for the Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons through the first two weeks were not picking each other up. Go back to week one, the defense came out flying for the first three quarters, the offense was decent but not good enough to put the game out of reach.
Then the offense had the opportunity to ice the game but ended up punting and all the defense had to do was make one stop which did not happen. Then the game ended with a blocked field goal that could have won the game. The offense, defense, and special teams failed to pick each other up, each making its own costly mistakes.
Then in week two, the defense was getting shredded, the offense was decent but had a couple mistakes with penalties and a costly interception, and Younghoe Koo also missed a long field goal.
In the second half, it got a little bit better, but the offense still failed to go win the game following a huge punt block and then a forced turnover on defense.
This all changed in week three against the Seattle Seahawks. The defense opened up by getting gashed, but the offense helped them out by matching Seattle’s offense. The first quarter went as follows; Seattle field goal, Atlanta touchdown, Seattle touchdown, and Atlanta field goal.
They ended up going into the half down by three but the offense came back with a field goal, then Seattle got a field goal, and Atlanta answered with a touchdown to go ahead permanently.
The Atlanta Falcons defense forced a punt and then the offense went to work by running the ball down the Seahawks’ throat. It looked as though they would keep cruising, milking the clock, and at the very least get a field goal, but they ended up turning the ball over.
It felt like another one of those games where the Falcons wouldn’t be able to finish but the defense finally stepped up by getting a huge sack and an interception on fourth down.
Then the offense turned around and got a first down to put the game away. It was great to see each side of the ball pick each other up and if they can continue to do that then they will win many more games.
