We all know how the Atlanta Falcons are not exactly the most storied NFL franchise. They suffered through many dark decades, found success in the late 90s, and then success during the Matt Ryan era but outside of that there has not been many happy times.

Hopefully, we are on our way to the most success that we have ever had, but for now, we are stuck looking at a grim past where they are only over .500 against eight of the 31 other franchises.

One of the 23 teams they do not have a winning record against is their week four opponent, the Cleveland Browns. Not only do they have a losing record, but they are also in a pretty big hole against the Browns.

The Atlanta Falcons must start their trek to a winning record vs. the Cleveland Browns

The Atlanta Falcons have a winning percentage of .200 against the Cleveland Browns which is the second worst percentage against an opponent for the Falcons.

If you are wondering, the only team they have been worse against is Matt Ryan’s current team, the Indianapolis Colts with a 2-15 record (.118).

The Browns have a percentage of .800 vs. the Falcons, which is their best against any opponent.

Anyways, the Atlanta Falcons are 3-12 against the Cleveland Browns. The first matchup between these two teams came in the Falcons’ inaugural season back in 1966, and they were demolished 49-17.

The most recent game was back in 2018 when the Falcons lost 28-16. That was the game when Nick Chubb took off for a 92-yard touchdown. It was not the most pretty game for Atlanta.

The Atlanta Falcons’ three wins against the Browns came in 1971, 1993, and 2010.

If the Dirty Birds wanted to get their all-time record against the Browns back to even it could take 24 years to do so, assuming they win this week and every matchup over that span of time. This doesn’t take into account the extra non-conference game that each team plays now with the 17-game schedule and a potential Super Bowl between these two teams — which, let’s be honest, probably won’t happen.

This Sunday the Falcons need to add a win to that dismal record. No time like the present to turn this franchise’s success around. If they can get a win at home it will put their record on the season at .500 which would be a solid start to a “rebuilding” year.
