Blowing out a Carolina Panther team that had so obviously given up on now-former head coach Matt Rhule shouldn’t be enough to wipe away how terrible Jimmy was just a week before. Garoppolo deserves some credit for scoring the game-winning points, however, unfortunately for him, they were points that counted for the wrong team.

Jimmy isn’t the first quarterback to pull the old self-safety and it isn’t likely he is the last. However, the timing and the fact they proved to be the deciding points when an interception happened that ended the game it is a perfect summation of Jimmy as a quarterback.

A capable leader with a solid arm that is on a strong roster can consistently win games. This is despite his consistent turnovers and plays that allow bad teams to hang close and good teams to often beat San Francisco if their defense isn’t close to perfect. Atlanta’s easiest path to winning this game is making Garoppolo make consistent plays and taking advantage of an inevitable mistake that will give Atlanta a chance to turn the game.
