With the trade deadline looming and the Atlanta Falcons clinging to first place in the NFC South in the midst of an expected rebuild, it is fair to question this team’s approach. Atlanta was expected to be one of the worst teams in the league competing for a top draft pick halfway through the season not fighting to host a home playoff game.

Atlanta has a long road ahead and a brutal end to the season winning this division is far from a sure thing despite the absolute dumpster fire it has become. A one-game lead with nine games to go is simply an indication that Arthur Smith is the right guy for the job and this team is overachieving.

Despite this impressive start, the reasons are obvious why the Falcons shouldn’t be making any moves at the trade deadline as sellers or buyers. This is a team who is a year away from being a real contender and the reasons not to make a move far outweigh the possible gain.
