3 Reasons the Atlanta Falcons shouldn’t make a deadline move
By Nick Halden
3. The Atlanta quarterback situation
How high the ceiling is for this Atlanta Falcons team is somewhat up in the air due to the fact the team keeps winning despite Mariota struggling consistently. The veteran quarterback keeps doing just enough to stay in the starting lineup and with Atlanta on top of the division it is hard to see the team making a change anytime in the next few weeks.
Rookie Desmond Ridder is the biggest question mark for this team which could find itself in a surprise playoff game. With Mariota as the starter, this team has no reason to make moves and not knowing exactly what they have in Ridder Atlanta’s ceiling this season is unknown and the team has very limited cap space.
Why risk a move when you don’t know you have the most important position on the field locked down? It seems at this point there is no questions left that Marcus Mariota isn’t an NFL passer and cannot consistently win games for the Falcons though his turnovers will certainly lose them. Making a move while still attempting to figure out their quarterback situation makes little sense for a team unsure which direction they will be headed for the rest of the season.
