The Atlanta Falcons won, that’s all that matters in the end, but they were also helped out by the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator’s inconceivable play-calling late in the game.

Luke Getsy, the offensive coordinator for the Bears, had his offense rolling going into this week and while they moved the ball for most of the game, he made some absolutely awful and head-scratching play-calling at the end of the game.

Atlanta Falcons are thankful for the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator

The Chicago Bears were trying to kill Justin Fields, there is no other explanation. Fields came into the game against the Atlanta Falcons having rushed for over 300 yards in two weeks, that takes a toll on anyone, especially a quarterback who holds the ball on every offensive snap.

The Falcons knew they would have to stop his legs first. The Bears were going to run him, no question about it. However, in the second half of the game, Fields had been beaten up by the Falcons. He was clearly having tightness in his legs then he took an awkward sack by Arnold Ebiketie. He was visibly hurt following that, even though he still made plays in the backfield.

The Atlanta Falcons answered the Bears’ game-tying touchdown with a Younghoe Koo field goal with just under two minutes left.

Justin Fields took the ball at his own 25 with three timeouts needing a field goal to tie it. Again, Fields was playing hurt already, but the Bears proceed to call a QB run with Fields who ran to the left and got hit by Dee Alford forcing him to fall hard on his shoulder out of bounds.

Justin Fields was writhing in pain and couldn’t get up, but instead of putting the backup in there, the Bears called a timeout even with the clock stopped in an effort to keep Fields from missing a play. So, he got up eventually and wobbled to the huddle. The one play that Luke Getsy could not call in that situation is called, QB delay up the middle.

He ran his quarterback right after he could hardly get himself to the huddle, not to mention, it was a run up the middle, meaning you had no chance to get out of bounds. Fields ends up taking another shot, takes a few precious seconds to get up, and got himself back behind the center.

The next play was when he had no ability to get out of the pocket, so he threw a jump pass that got tipped and intercepted.

Now, this is obviously an Atlanta Falcons website, but it is worth calling out the opposing coaches for their irresponsible decisions and play-calling. Why were they running their QB in a two-minute situation when he looks like he should be on a stretcher? Not once, but twice. Then consider that you are in the no-huddle so you need a QB who can run back to the line and get everyone set to save as much clock, Fields should not have been out there, let alone out there running.

Who knows how the game ends for the Atlanta Falcons if the Bears’ play-calling wasn’t irresponsible, but they are glad they came out with the win to keep pace in their division.

If I were Justin Fields, I would be absolutely furious with my offensive coordinator, just saying.
