Atlanta Falcons key #1: Do not waste downs and play to your strength on offense

A personal pet peeve of mine has been when the Atlanta Falcons waste a down by calling a deep shot with a quarterback who has proven that he can’t hit a wide-open receiver if he is past 30 yards. There is no need to do that in this game, just run the ball and stick to your strength.

This team is clearly built to run the ball with their numerous running backs and their quarterback. It is important that they stick with that because they need to get the upper hand in time of possession.

Wasting downs by having Mariota throw a deep ball 20 yards over Kyle Pitts’ head is simply stupid. Teams all season have known what you wanted to do on offense and they have rarely been able to stop it.

In addition to the running game, they should throw some play-action passes to the intermediate area of the field because Mariota has shown, for the most part, that he can hit those passes, it is just the deep shots that are a complete waste of a down, even if it does get the defense to back up a little bit.
