Atlanta Falcons land playmaker in first 2023 mock draft
By Nick Halden
For the third straight season, the Atlanta Falcons pick a pass catcher with their first-round pick. Myles Murphy and Jalen Carter were both off the board going Murphy picked one spot before Atlanta’s turn. Bryce Young was the first overall pick to the Houston Texans taking away Atlanta’s three clear targets ahead of Johnston.
While Atlanta may have drafted Kyle Pitts and Drake London in back-to-back seasons they still need help at the receiver position so badly. They could lose Olamide Zaccheaus this off-season and have already moved on from Calvin Ridley. Whether it is Desmond Ridder or someone else at the quarterback position for Atlanta they need a receiver they can count on other than London.
Drafting Johnston and bringing in a veteran receiver or two in free agency would fix the position and make Atlanta far more explosive in their passing attack. Johnston appears to be the top receiver prospect that Atlanta could have a shot at drafting in their current slot. If Carter, Murphy, and Young are all off the board as expected Atlanta drafting Quentin is the right move and one that makes Atlanta a better landing spot for a top quarterback or will give Desmond Ridder a much-needed second option at receiver and take pressure off of Drake London.
