Atlanta Falcons land playmaker in first 2023 mock draft
By Nick Halden
This pick leaves Atlanta fixing their pass rush through trades, free agency, or late-round picks. However, after the first two pass rushers in this draft, there isn’t a ca n’t-miss option that is clearly going to change life for the Falcons’ defense. If Washington falls this far after his injury in the college playoffs Atlanta shouldn’t hesitate at picking the tight end.
Washington would pair with Kyle Pitts so perfectly as a physical force who isn’t afraid to mix it up with anyone on defense. Add in the fact he is a walking mismatch and a great blocker, and Washington is a perfect fit for Arthur Smith’s offense and would give Atlanta a great duo at tight end.
Drafting a tight end after a receiver could open the Falcons up to a lot of criticism if they don’t address the defense with splashy moves in free agency. Atlanta’s pass rush is in desperate need of help, however, this is an offensive league and it is clear the Falcons need more depth this move this pick provides just that and helps the Atlanta run game.
