Top 3 reasons the Atlanta Falcons should trade for Derek Carr
By Nick Halden
3. Carr makes the Falcons NFC South favorites
The Tampa Bay Bucs and New Orleans Saints have the worst two projected caps in the league heading into the off-season and it is hard to see either team fixing this issue quickly. Tom Brady seems likely to retire or head elsewhere leaving little room to believe the Bucs will contend. The Saints are finally paying for the Drew Brees years and will be out of contention as well with an aging roster.
The one team that is a threat to the Falcons next season is a solid Carolina Panthers roster that will be looking for a franchise quarterback as well. Landing Derek Carr would be enough to make the Falcons division favorites next season as the roster is currently constructed. Carr’s ability as a passer combined with Atlanta’s young weapons and the solid run game would help cover a below-average defense.
However, even if the Falcons sign or trade for Carr they will have the cap space left to make big moves to improve the defense and solidify themselves as division favorites.
