Super Bowl 51, 28-3, something that the Atlanta Falcons franchise will never escape from. Many consider it to be the biggest collapse in sports history, but technically, it is not even one of the three biggest playoff collapses in NFL playoff history anymore.

The Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday put an absolute beating on the Jacksonville Jaguars, at least, for the first half of the game. At one point, they led 27 to 0, but they somehow ended up losing the game, which also pushed the Falcons’ 25-point collapse in 2017 out of the top three biggest blown leads. Thank the heavens!

The Atlanta Falcons Super Bowl 51 collapse, technically, isn’t even a top-three NFL playoff collapse

You do not have to look far as an Atlanta Falcons fan to find someone commenting ’28-3′ on completely irrelevant posts. Fans aren’t exactly the greatest at letting things go, as most Falcons fans are over that fateful day five years ago. It is completely pointless to comment those three numbers, but whatever, the joke is on them, they can continue to waste their time.

The Atlanta Falcons’ lead in Super Bowl 51 isn’t even in the top three largest blown leads in NFL playoff history anymore, all thanks to the Los Angeles Chargers. Here are the top three blown leads in playoff history:

  1. AFC Wild Card 1993: Houston Oilers blow 32-point (35-3) lead to Buffalo Bills
  2. AFC Wild Card 2014: Kansas City Chiefs blow 28-point lead (38-10) to Indianapolis Colts
  3. AFC Wild Card 2023: Los Angeles Chargers blow 27-point lead (27-0) to Jacksonville Jaguars

We will conveniently stop the list there!

Man, something about the AFC Wild Card games, they must be cursed.

The game between the Chargers and Jaguars on Saturday was one for the ages. The Chargers were absolutely destroying a hot team in the Jaguars and had intercepted Trevor Lawrence four times! Jacksonville looked absolutely dead, but somehow they were able to turn it around. The Jags were helped out by some calls late in the game but the Chargers were clearly favored by the officials throughout the entirety of the game.

Despite that, an angry Joey Bosa had the guts to complain about the same officials who ignored some blatant defensive pass interference and holding calls on his teammates the entire game.

All I will say is I don’t think it would take a “blatant” holding call for him to get injured.

He does have some truth to what he said, officials need more accountability, but it might have been the wrong time to say all of that considering the officials didn’t force you to surrender a 27-point lead.

At least the Atlanta Falcons didn’t make excuses for their loss in the Super Bowl. And we are all glad that Bosa and the Chargers pushed the Falcons out of the top three on a stat that no one wants to be the focus of. Next time someone comments “28-3”, just simply ask them to list the three largest blown leads in NFL playoff history.
