If the Atlanta Falcons plan to move forward with Desmond Ridder as their starting quarterback the team will need to add at least one quality backup option in the off-season. For the last two years, Atlanta has had a combination of Josh Rosen, Feleipe Franks, and Desmond Ridder as their backup options. Atlanta must be willing to spend a bit more on the position earlier in the off-season and bring in a veteran capable of helping Ridder or taking over in case of injury.

If Desmond Ridder starts the season as Atlanta’s quarterback he will likely be given the ability to make mistakes and develop throughout the season considering he only received first-team reps for four games.

Finding a capable backup that can step in as a starter but is not a player fans will call for at the first sign of trouble is a difficult balance. Looking at potential options this off-season five clear players stand out as options capable of both helping Ridder and running Arthur Smith’s offense at a high level.
