5 Quarterbacks the Falcons could sign behind Ridder this off-season
By Nick Halden
1. Baker Mayfield
Despite playing at a consistent level at the end of the season with the Rams it would be surprising to see Baker land another starting job. He seems likely to follow the same path as Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota getting a backup job letting his value rebuild and earning another chance as a starter.
Baker was awful with Carolina and there is no defending his poor play. Looking at Baker’s entire career, however, he has consistently been in poor coaching situations and still found success. In Arthur Smith’s run-heavy offense, Baker could step in and help Atlanta continue to compete each week if Ridder is injured or unable to play at the level he is expected to in his second year in the league.
Before being benched this past season Baker has thrown for over 3,000 yards in each of his first four seasons and had 108 total touchdowns compared to 64 interceptions. If Baker is forced to take a backup job this off-season the Falcons shouldn’t hesitate to spend a little extra to bring a great backup option to Atlanta and provide Ridder with a backup who has had his share of ups and downs throughout his career.
