3. The Atlanta Falcons have been boring for half a decade

Outside of their late-game collapses the Atlanta Falcons have spent the last five years as a boring team that is unable to win consistently on either side of the ball. Outside of Julio Jones and Matt Ryan on offense the team was predictable and boring failing to put fans in the stadium or draw the attention they did in Matt Ryan’s MVP season.

Arthur Blank, Terry Fontenot, and Arthur Smith all know this and might be willing to make the splashy move to change this instead of safely building a complete boring team that wins. Going out and landing Lamar Jackson, Aaron Rodgers, or Derek Carr might be the wrong move but they would be moves that put Atlanta back in the NFL spotlight.

Starting the season with Desmond Ridder is the boring move that allows Atlanta to build a complete roster and quietly win next season. With an easy schedule and solid building blocks the Falcons just need play at the level they did last season and add in pieces in free agency and the draft to be a real NFC contender.

Despite this, there is going to be a part of Atlanta’s ownership and front office that wants to forgo the slow boring process of building a complete roster and make the splashy move bringing instant attention to Atlanta. Perhaps with the right star quarterback it works out for a time, however, Atlanta just watched how hard it is to build a complete roster after paying a veteran quarterback in Matt Ryan. The best path for the Falcons contending in 2023 and the years to come is making the boring moves adding talent in the trenches and improving the receiver and tight end positions building around Ridder and trusting their system and coaching to be the difference moving forward.
