Ways Desmond Ridder can improve to become the Falcons’ franchise QB

Desmond Ridder showed a lot of promise in each of his four starts as the Atlanta Falcons quarterback. Better yet, he made huge leaps from game one to two, two to three, etc. He looked like a different quarterback in each game.

He also capped his rookie season off by beating Tom Brady (technically), giving Brady his first losing season. What better way to end a season?

With all the promise he showed, there are still areas that he must improve in to become a franchise quarterback for Atlanta, much like every rookie quarterback. Here are a handful of those areas he needs to improve during the offseason.

1. Desmond Ridder must eliminate the ugly, unforced fumbles

Desmond Ridder didn’t turn the ball over in either of his first two games, but he did have a few passes that were put in harm’s way. He negated those overly-risky throws in his final two games but it was traded for some ugly and unforced fumbles.

The first one came against Arizona when he took a snap under center and never gripped the ball, causing it to roll to the defensive linemen. The second one was against Tampa Bay and he simply loaded his arm and accidentally dropped the ball. Those things cannot happen!

The good news is that it will likely be something we all forget about next year since he should get more reps in practice. It isn’t worth worrying about unless it continues throughout the next season.
