Whether the Atlanta Falcons stick with Desmond Ridder as their starting quarterback or attempt to make a splashy move at the position will be the story of the Atlanta off-season. In a quarterback-driven league, this is understandable but not where Atlanta’s front office should have their attention.

Atlanta needs to be focused on adding a capable backup and allowing Ridder a drama-free off-season to focus on being the starting quarterback. With the ability to build a complete roster around him through free agency and in the draft, the Falcons should trust the second-year quarterback who showed impressive growth through four starts.

Ridder’s numbers in his first four games are very similar to Matt Ryan’s. While Ryan had reliable veteran targets when he entered the league Ridder spent the final four games of the season with only Drake London as a consistent option. Despite this Ridder showed enough in the final four games of the season for the Falcons to believe he is the clear best option moving forward. With the reasons around the league and on tape completely obvious why they should move forward with Desmond Ridder.
