Watching each of the Atlanta Falcons’ final four games back Desmond Ridder’s growth and potential as a passer stand out. There is no way around the fact that his first start on the road in New Orleans was underwhelming. For each of the three following starts, however, Ridder either won or gave Atlanta a chance to win.

Desmond did enough to show Atlanta he has the potential to be the starter moving forward. The Falcons need to cover their bases and bring in a player to compete with Ridder in camp and preseason with Ridder having to actively lose the job to be replaced.

The backups of seasons past won’t cut it the Falcons need to be willing to spend extra to bring in a player who can help Ridder on the sideline and push the second-year quarterback as a starter giving the Falcons a real starting option if Desmond doesn’t take the leap in his second season in the league.  Atlanta’s primary target should be a former starter they faced in the 2021 season.
