The Atlanta Falcons have been missing a clear number-one receiver for the past three seasons. Whether it was injuries or an inability for a player to step up Atlanta hasn’t had a clear answer at the position since Julio Jones was healthy and at his best in Atlanta.

Whether it is Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, or Josh Allen the one consistent factor in a young quarterback taking the next step is having an elite receiver. Quarterbacks aren’t as reliant as receivers, however, without targets capable of getting consistently open it is hard to evaluate a young QB.

For Desmond Ridder at the end of the season, it was often Drake London or bust with Kyle Pitts injured and no other reliable pass catcher. Ridder needs a veteran capable of helping him take a step forward and DeAndre Hopkins could be the perfect option.

Coming off of a rough season Hopkins is likely on his way out of Arizona and the Falcons should carefully monitor the situation. Adding Hopkins would give Atlanta one of the best skill player rosters in the NFC with London, Pitts, Hopkins, Patterson, and Allgeier more than enough to help Ridder take a step forward.

Adding Hopkins and a veteran or depth receiver in the draft would fix Atlanta’s lack of options at the position and allow London to take a huge step forward without the pressure of being the primary option.

While the injury concerns are real with Hopkins his potential impact is far too exciting not to take the risk for the right price. Atlanta needs to make a splash at the position this off-season if they are going to stick with Ridder and there isn’t a better player potentially on the market than Hopkins.
