There has already been some off-season speculation surrounding the Atlanta Falcons as a potential landing spot for Ryan Tannehill. This is understandable when you consider that Arthur Smith was the OC for the Titans when Ryan had his best season. Tannehill was viewed as one of the best comeback stories in the league during this time and had the Titans in a position to compete in the AFC each season after Marcus Mariota was benched.

Despite the success Ryan had with Arthur Smith there should be zero interest in bringing Tannehill and Arthur Smith back together.  Tannehill in the playoffs a year ago threw back-breaking interception after back-breaking interception as a reminder of his ceiling.  Tannehill cannot be an option for the Falcons this off-season. He isn’t a clear upgrade over Desmond Ridder who could have a much higher ceiling.

Atlanta is far better served going with the young player who is both cheaper and has a chance to develop into a better player. Allow the front office to spend that money on building a complete roster.

Arthur Smith had a chance already to bring one of his former quarterbacks in Marcus Mariota to Atlanta in an attempt to give him a second chance. Just as that failed so would a Tannehill and Smith reunion. Tannehill isn’t worth the cap space when you consider the quarterback’s ceiling even with his regular-season ability.

Ryan would be a slight upgrade in the immediate but would set Atlanta back in cap space without bringing the excitement. If the Falcons are going to make the mistake of spending on a quarterback and not building a complete roster the right move is to add a quarterback who is capable of overcoming a roster and winning a playoff game Ryan Tannehill clearly isn’t that guy.

Next. Falcons must make the playoffs in 2023. dark
