Saints signing Derek Carr would be doing the Falcons a favor
One of the NFL’s most heated rivalries is between the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints. Neither side wants to see the other be successful (so basically both sides have been happy for a few years now) and anytime you see the other team make a dumb move, it feels like a win for your team.
Quarterback Derek Carr is now a free agent following a weird end to his time in Las Vegas. Rumors have been swirling around that the Saints will sign him, which would be doing the Falcons a big favor.
The Saints being led by Derek Carr would be a huge win for the Atlanta Falcons
Derek Carr is a good quarterback, but that’s just it, he is good, not great. If the Saints sign him, they are just dooming their franchise for the next few years, which would be music to the Falcons’ ears.
Would the Saints be a better team with Carr? Yes, but in this day and age, the NFL is being run by great quarterbacks. Just look at the past five Super Bowls and who the quarterbacks were, Patrick Mahomes (3 times), Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow, and Tom Brady (2 times). There have been only three quarterbacks (Matt Stafford, Jared Goff, & Jimmy Garoppolo) whom you can say didn’t necessarily carry their team to a championship. Derek Carr is closer to Jared Goff than he is to Mahomes or Hurts.
The best thing that the Saints can do for the Falcons would be to sign Derek Carr. The Saints have no cap space and a contract to land Carr will not be cheap. The Saints do not have a good enough roster for Carr to make a Super Bowl with and there isn’t a way to fix that with their cap situation, especially after committing money to the recently-released quarterback.
So, Atlanta Falcons fans, beg for the New Orleans Saints to sign Derek Carr as it would put them way behind in constructing a championship-caliber roster.
