While the quarterback position has been the focus of Atlanta Falcons discussions early on this off-season it shouldn’t be the story of the off-season. Unless a cheap deal falls in Atlanta’s lap for a reliable quarterback the team needs to build around Desmond Ridder and give the second-year QB a chance to develop.

This will allow Atlanta to build a complete roster around a quarterback on a rookie deal and give them their best chance at making the playoffs. In a terrible division in a weaker conference, Atlanta is going to have a chance to compete for a playoff spot even with an average quarterback. Ridder doesn’t have to be elite to get the job done.

If he proves himself not to be the answer Atlanta can make a move in the draft or free agency next year. For now their focus shouldn’t be at quarterback bit on their current roster deciding which key players to re-sign and who they will replace.
