3. Adding both Ryan Nielsen and Jerry Gray

After losing Dean Pees the Atlanta Falcons explored every option at the DC position including former head coach Brian Flores and current Miami DC Vic Fangio. While Atlanta may not have added one of the bigger names in the running for the position they added two great coaches who are both uniquely qualified for the role.

Ryan Nielsen has been with the New Orleans Saints since 2017 in a number of roles. Nielsen has spent the majority of that time working with the defensive line. Ryan’s resume speaks for itself and more than qualifies him as a solid hire.

The Falcons weren’t content simply adding Nielsen, however, bringing in former Green Bay defensive backs coach Jerry Gray. Gray will be an assistant head coach and help Nielsen on the defensive side.

Gray brings vast coaching experience having been a defensive coach since 1995 with SMU following that up with stops at the Titans, Bills, Commanders, Seahawks, Vikings, and Packers. Gray has built an impressive resume and alongside Nielsen was a great addition for a coaching staff that has without question improved this off-season.
