3 Players that could follow Jerry Gray to the Atlanta Falcons
By Nick Halden
3. Xavier Rhodes
Xavier Rhodes is an interesting option for the Falcons as a bargain veteran who could provide depth if the team decides to move on from Casey Hayward. At this point in Rhodes’ career, the corner is going to be a depth option and likely not a starter barring an injury or major struggles from Atlanta’s young corners.
Rhodes and Gray worked together during Gray’s last season with the Vikings. The 2019 season often leaned on the Vikings’ defense and ended with a memorable upset over the New Orleans Saints. Rhodes and Gray’s secondary helped fuel Minnesota to the upset before the offense flamed out in the next round against San Francisco.
Rhodes would give the Falcons a player Gray is familiar with and veteran leadership for a group that likely is going to be leaning on unproven players outside of A.J. Terrell. While Atlanta doesn’t have to be shopping in the bargain aisle of free agency any longer it doesn’t mean the team shouldn’t sign cheap veteran contracts like Xavier Rhodes to help provide depth and leadership to a team looking to make a playoff push.
