5 Tight Ends the Atlanta Falcons could pair with Kyle Pitts
By Nick Halden
One of the top priorities for the Atlanta Falcons this off-season will be adding depth to the receiver and tight end positions. The difficult part is already done with clear number-one targets at both positions in Kyle Pitts and Drake London on the roster still on their rookie deals.
At the tight end position Atlanta needs to sign a traditional tight end that can be used in both as a pass catcher and in blocking packages without sacrificing Kyle’s ability as a receiver. Atlanta needs to use Pitts as the mismatch that the tight end is. Far too often in the 2022 season Pitts was used as a blocker or a decoy and the few times Atlanta was willing to throw the ball his way Mariota often found ways to complete miss Kyle.
The reason for Kyle’s regression in year two isn’t any struggles on Kyle’s part but due to design and a quarterback who couldn’t get the ball to Pitts consistently. While Desmond Ridder is a clear upgrade over Mariota the team still needs to upgrade the tight-end position to bring in a second target for Ridder and take some of the pressure off of Pitts in year three.
