5 Tight Ends the Atlanta Falcons could pair with Kyle Pitts
By Nick Halden
3. Austin Hooper
Another former Atlanta Falcons tight end is set to hit free agency after spending time with the Browns and Titans. The only issue with adding Hooper is the fact the tight end isn’t the traditional blocker the team lacks at the position. However, Hooper is a great receiver and would provide Atlanta with a scary duo at the position.
Hooper’s last season in Atlanta saw the tight end finish the year with a career-best 787 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns despite playing in an offense with Calvin Ridley and Julio Jones. Hooper could play that same role as the third or fourth option with Drake London and Kyle Pitts the obvious primary targets.
While Hooper wouldn’t return to these numbers in Arthur Smith’s run-focused offense Hooper is still a solid fit and would have a big impact. Atlanta’s goal this off-season when it comes to pass catchers should be adding depth not adding the star player but bringing in veterans like Austin Hooper who have a resume that shows a reliable option that helps give Desmond Ridder every chance to succeed.
