Lamar Jackson and the Atlanta Falcons continue to be discussed as a potential fit despite Atlanta’s owner and front office making it clear the team believes in Desmond Ridder. Jackson is clearly a huge upgrade over Ridder in the immediate but changes what Atlanta can do in free agency and the draft for at least the next three years.

Jackson to Atlanta would prevent the team from fully evaluating Ridder and being able to build a complete roster. While one could argue Jackson alone would be enough to make Atlanta an NFC contender and rightly so the goal is to win a Super Bowl.

Even if the Falcons were able to lean on Jackson and win the NFC the team lacks the depth to contend with the top AFC contenders.

Atlanta needs to focus on building position depth and adding talent to an underwhelming defense. There are clearly far better landing spots for Lamar that make sense for both sides and allow Atlanta to continue building this team.
