Atlanta Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota starring in Netflix docu-series
By Nick Halden
While Atlanta Falcons fans are growing impatient for football to return this summer they will have a surprising source of entertainment. Marcus Mariota was part of a new Netflix project along with Kirk Cousins and Patrick Mahomes that is set to release this summer. The project will provide an exciting insight into the Atlanta season and perhaps provide Mariota’s perspective on why the quarterback left the team after being benched at the end of the season.
It will be especially interesting to see how the docu-series handles Mariota’s part considering Cousins had a good season and Mahomes finished the year as both the regular season and Super Bowl MVP.
Mariota is not only the odd one out of this group in terms of production but in the veteran’s outlook going forward.
It would be surprising to see Mariota get another shot at a starting job likely heading back to the bench used as a wildcat option as the veteran was with the Raiders. The docu-series having Mariota mic’d up every game should provide an interesting perspective not only for Mariota but for the Atlanta offense and perhaps head coach Arthur Smith.
Aside from Atlanta obviously moving on from Mariota this is great for Atlanta fans providing a unique perspective on the 2022 season and hopefully plenty of information we weren’t privy to throughout.
Other notes that will be interesting to watch is whether the docu-series covers Kirk Cousins and the Vikings on their final play of the season and Kirk making a terrible decision throwing the ball short of the sticks. For Mahomes, it will be fascinating to watch the Super Bowl MVP from the start of the year as the Chiefs started the year expected to take a step back after losing Tyreek Hill.
Marcus Mariota in this docu-series is just as he was for the Atlanta Falcons at quarterback, clearly out of place but interesting nonetheless.
