Building the Atlanta Falcons all-time depth chart: Special teams
Kicker:
- Matt Bryant
Punter:
- Matt Bosher
Some people are going to be pretty angry about this decision but hear me out, Matt Bryant is the greatest kicker in Atlanta Falcons’ history, yes even over the Pro Football Hall of Famer, Morten Andersen.
Matt Bryant played three more seasons with the Falcons (11), played in 23 more games (147), made 5.4% more of his field goals (87.5%), .2% fewer PATs (99%), and they both had a long field goal of 59. Not to mention, Matt Bryant is the most clutch kicker in NFL history. Although, Morten Anderson did make a pretty clutch kick for the Falcons in the playoffs.
And then we have Matt Bosher who had a little competition from John James for the position. Matt Bosher may not have as many overall punt yards but he is much better in the stats that matter. His yards-per-punt average was five yards over James’, net yards were four yards more, and he had half the touchbacks, and 69 more punts inside the 20. The one spot sore spot is his nine blocked punts.
Overall, you have to be more than happy with the Atlanta Falcons’ all-time special teams unit. They have numerous players who are either currently or should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It would make for a dominant unit.
