4 Atlanta Falcons facing make-or-break 2023 season
By Nick Halden
4. Mykal Walker
This will be Walker’s fourth year with the Falcons but really only in his second season, he has gotten a true opportunity. Blocked by Deion Jones, Walker was a great depth piece before being asked to become a consistent contributor in his third season.
Evaluating Walker as a third-year player is difficult based on the change at defensive coordinator and the dysfunction around him. Walker showed flashes of being able to hold down the starting job but struggled with consistency.
As the roster currently stands it will be Walker and Troy Andersen manning the middle of the Atlanta defense. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Falcons provide competition for both players with Rashaan Evans departing in free agency.
Walker finished the 2022 season with 107 total tackles and two interceptions. Mykal entering what could be his final season with the Falcons still has a lot of prove in year four and should get an even larger oppurtunity if the Falcons don’t make a big move at the position.
