4 Best QB situations for the Atlanta Falcons in 2023

4. Atlanta adds another bridge quarterback
Arthur Smith cannot afford another losing season after falling just short in his first two years with the Falcons. Atlanta has been right on the edge of contention but cannot win any of the important games down the stretch. This was understandable considering the restraints Fontenot and Smith were under with a terrible cap situation and very little young talent.
This has changed heading into year three for the duo and it is time to win now. If the Falcons don’t believe in Ridder and cannot land a trade for a top quarterback or move up in the draft Atlanta’s next best option is adding a quarterback who can win now and serve as a bridge.
Jacoby Brissett, Jimmy Garoppolo, Baker Mayfield, and Carson Wentz are the top options in free agency when it comes to players who could be looking for a short term deal to start and rebuild value. The Falcons can sign a veteran quarterback and use their draft picks and current cap space to build a roster good enough to contend and win the NFC South.
The problem with this move is the lack of clarity moving forward at the quarterback position and the clear ceiling adding a veteran brings in comparison to a draft pick or Desmond Ridder.
