3. Penix doesn't save the season
What has pushed Kirk Cousins into hot water are back-to-back weeks going into the bye with awful interceptions. Neither pass can be defended and both ended any hope the Falcons had of turning bad games around. However, if we're being completely fair to Cousins it wasn't the quarterback's fault they were in either hole.
Unless Penix is going to be rushing the quarterback at a high level he isn't fixing Atlanta's biggest issues. The problems for Atlanta are directly on the defense and a complete lack of understanding from their defensive coordinator. Jimmy Lake consistently is making poor decisions and putting a bad defense in an even worse position.
You cannot turn Atlanta's season around by putting in a rookie quarterback. Kirk Cousins hasn't been the problem for this team in their recent slide. Yes, he was the solution early in the season and couldn't deliver on those built expectations lately. Still, there simply isn't a reason to put Penix in considering how Cousins has played overall. The quarterback isn't the problem for this team or the reason they are struggling. It is sloppy game plans and an inability to make simple adjustments on defense or find a way to pressure the quarterback. M
