We all know by now about that the web of connectivity that lies between the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles, especially now that former Eagles exec Ian Cunningham is in office and he brought over several ex-Philadelphia players and executives with him to Atlanta when he took the GM job. And it seems that this web only gets larger and more complex as more time passes.
The latest connection between the Falcons and Eagles is courtesy of All-Pro cornerback A.J. Terrell--who inadvertently helped the reigning NFC East champions sign another Pro Bowl CB in Kenny Moore due to an intriguing ripple effect from devastating circumstances because of his recent groin injury.

On Tuesday, the Falcons placed Terrell on injured reserve due to the groin injury suffered in the Week 2 loss to the Panthers, which saw them scour the league for possible cornerback insurance, because what they have right now won't cut it--so of course, they ended up signing someone from the Eagles.

According to Will McFadden, Atlanta reportedly signed cornerback Robert Longerbeam to its active roster off of Philadelphia's practice squad after ending up there after he was released by the Baltimore Ravens during roster cuts--and spent the last three weeks in the City of Brotherly Love.

The Dirty Birds signing Longerbeam meant that the Eagles had an opening on their practice squad. So of course, Howie Roseman used that opening to upgrade, signing a player who had no business spending as much time in free agency as he actually did after requesting his release from the Colts.
And while he had interest from other teams, the Eagles landed him for a plethora of reasons:
- He's familiar with Nick Sirianni from their overlapping time in Indianapolis
- The Eagles will do more to utilize his versatility than other teams
- He's playing for a team that's a legit Super Bowl contender
I would imagine keeping the 31-year-old on the practice squad is a chance to let him adjust since he spent the summer unemployed. And given the Eagles are dealing with injuries to both Cooper DeJean and Andrew Mukuba, the plan is reportedly to play Moore as a nickel corner and a safety.
However, none of this wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the Falcons needing cornerback help after Terrell's injury since he'll be out for the next four games at minimum. They're the ones who knowingly signed an Eagle to open up that practice squad spot, even if they didn't know this is how it would end.
A CB room of Mike Hughes, C.J. Henderson, Avieon Terrell, Billy Bowman Jr. (once he returns), Malcolm DeWalt IV, and Mike Ford Jr. isn't anything to phone home about. That much is obvious. So giving Longerbeam a shot to carve out a real role in Atlanta when he was never even making Philadelphia's roster is interesting--because they always would've preferred a veteran like Moore.
A.J. Terrell is a tough player for the Falcons to replace, and while Robert Longerbeam isn't much, he was a captain at Rutgers. And while his signing may not feel like a game-changer, the ripple effect made the connection between the Falcons and Eagles clear--which helped them get Kenny Moore.
