Many Atlanta Falcons fans aren't thrilled with the notion of former Miami Dolphins signal caller Tua Tagovailoa emerging as the team's starting quarterback in Week 1, but running back Bijan Robinson thinks the former top pick has something up his sleeve that can supercharge this offense.
In an exclusive interview with FanSided on behalf of Colgate, Robinson said that Tagovailoa's experience in the NFL and his past history with one of the game's most brilliant offensive minds in Mike McDaniel is what will take the Falcons to the next level. To hear Robinson tell it, he and Tua are already in sync.
"He has a lot of experience in this league, obviously, with the head coach [and] offensive coordinator he came from," Robinson said. "Seeing that come to life is pretty cool...we talked a lot about the pass game and certain reads and how he wants to look, how he wants to be there, even in the run game. I just really respect how he approaches the game, who he is as a person."

No one will confuse Tagovailoa for Dan Marino, but the social media jokes about his regression in 2025 obscured what was once a very promising career in Miami. In three consecutive seasons between 2022 and 2024, Tagovailoa led the league in passer rating (2022), passing yards (2023), and completion percentage (2024).
While he doesn't have McDaniel with him in Atlanta, Tagovailoa's time in Miami showed that for all his faults, he developed into a player who can throw with impeccable anticipation and solid accuracy down the field when he is protected. Kevin Stefanski and the Falcons may have the infrastructure to help Tua get back on track.
Stefanski's history as a play designer should immediately be an upgrade over the outdated Arthur Smith and clearly overwhelmed Zac Robinson. When paired with all of the bells and whistles on Atlanta's offense, the ingredients for a successful season are there.

Besides injuries, Tua's biggest inhibitor to success in Miami was his inability to make plays when pressure heats up the pocket. To mitigate that, Atlanta has stalwarts like Chris Lindstrom, Jake Matthews, and the recently extended Matthew Bergeron on the offensive line to keep him upright.
As far as weapons go, Tagovailoa will have three of the best at their respective positions to choose from. Robinson is as good as it gets as far as current running backs go, Drake London has taken the leap many expected despite poor quarterback play, and Kyle Pitts remains a matchup nightmare.
While many on the outside seem to think that the Tua fans saw during his final season in Miami is emblematic of what the Falcons will see to kick off the 2026 season, Robinson does not subscribe to that line of thinking. Bijan has seen Tagovailoa kick butt before in Miami, and he has what he needs to replicate that success in Atlanta.
