5 Moments that stood out in Atlanta Falcons preseason debut

2. Atlanta's depth continuing to take hits
Bralen Trice dealt with an injury after the Falcons already had to cart Hellams off the field. The safety was in his second season and fighting to get his starting role back from Richie Grant. Grant and Jessie Bates are now Atlanta's starting safety duo with Atlanta having reason for major concern with the team's lack of depth.
Making a splashy move at the position shouldn't be out of the question. It isn't the first serious injury the Falcons have dealt with losing receiver Rondale Moore ahead of last week's first preseason game. Moore is yet to be replaced with Friday's game giving even more cause for concern.
If there was ever a game that proved both sides of Atlanta selecting Penix it was Friday's. The rookie quarterback looked the part of a future franchise star while Atlanta lost more depth they simply didn't have.
Limited cap space is going to make it tough to decide between adding pass rushing, safety, or receiver depth the team so obviously needs. Any serious injury to one of the team's stars can't be survived long term. They lack the depth on both sides of the ball and that limited depth has only gotten worse.
