Falcons 2024 Mock Draft: Kirk Cousins doesn't stop Atlanta from selecting QB
By Ryan Heckman
Relax, everyone. This pick has absolutely zero bearing on Kyle Pitts and his status with the team. This is purely a "best player available" scenario, and as it happened to be, Ohio State tight end Cade Stover was the best player on the board, here.
Pitts is going to be used and used often. But, with the departure of Jonnu Smith, the Falcons continue working on filling out their tight end room. Stover stands 6-foot-4 and is an athlete. He's a former basketball player who can high-point the football and excels in the receiving game. Not that the Falcons need another receiving tight end, but this once again, was yet another luxury pick.
In the fifth round, the Falcons go back to the defensive side of the ball and add to their defensive line room once again. It's never a bad idea to draft a defensive player from LSU, and finding one in the fifth round could equal real value when it's all said and done.
Mekhi Wingo is a bit undersized, standing just six feet tall and weighing 284 pounds. But, he plays with a whole lot of energy. This is a high-effort player who could come in and make the most of his limited snaps right away, with the potential to be a bigger part down the road.
