Falcons vs Giants – Three Key Matchups

Time to get ready for some playoff football Falcons fans! With the Saints winning last night we now know that the winner of the Falcons – Giants will make the trip to Green Bay next week. Given that there will be some key matchups that will decide which of these two teams will make the trip up north next week. Here is three that will be the most decisive.

Giants Front Four vs Falcons O-Line – The Giants defensive line is one of the best in the league boasting some very good pass rushers including Jason Pierre Paul, Osi Umenyiora and Justin “Dirtbag” Tuck. The Falcons must give Matt Ryan time against a four man rush and force the Giants to bring some more defenders in a blitz, where Matty Ice has been seriously effective in the second half of the year. The matchups of the Giants pass rushers on our not exactly athletic offensive tackles Will Svitek and Tyson Clabo does scare me, we will have to see if they step up to the challenge.

Falcons CB Brent Grimes vs Giants WR Victor Cruz – Cruz has been sensational this year getting over 1500 yards receiving by being the Giants big play threat, scoring on 5 or 6 touchdown catches of over 65 yards! Grimes matches up well with Victor Cruz and i expect (assuming Grimes plays and is healthy) to limit Cruz’s explosiveness. Avoiding explosive plays on defense has been an emphasis from the Falcons this year and the Falcons cannot afford to let Cruz break a 80 or so yard catch.

Falcons WR Julio Jones vs Giants Secondary – The Giants play a lot of zone coverage and with some clever play design, we can get Julio over the top of this defense and create some explosive plays of our own. Julio has been great recently and should have a huge role to play in the outcome of this game.

Let’s go Falcons!
