It’s over! It’s over! It’s finally over!

That’s right, all the speculation of when and how much Matt Ryan’s contract is all thrown out the window.  For at least five years or so.

Matt Ryan Claimed that it was a relief to not have to think about the contract anymore and as a sports blogger who has to write a lot of pieces about anything I can get my hands on, I’m glad I only have to write one more post about it.

The details are that it’s a five year deal worth $103 million.  $59 Million is guaranteed.  It’s a monster contract that makes him the second best paid quarterback in the NFL.  It barely out does Joe Flacco’s contract and comes in just short of Aaron Rodger’s.  Of course the sporting fandom world hates it.  They loath it.  But let’s keep one thing in mind, the contract is not a reflection on past accomplishments, but a reflection on how much the team needs and willing to pay a player.  Aaron Rodgers is higher paid because he, like Matt Ryan, is the back bone to the team.  Without either of these quarterbacks, the perspective team may not even have a winning season.  Has Matt Ryan done as much as Joe Flacco?  No.  That’s obvious by the “STUPDI DEEL, RYAN ONLY HAS 1 PLAYOF WIN HURR DURR.” Argument I see all over twitter, facebook, and other commentable sites.  But is Matt Ryan a better quarterback than Joe Flacco?  Absolutely.

It’s not who’s a better champion; it’s who’s most invaluable. You want to pay a guy to win you a championship.  Not someone who already has.  Aaron Rodgers has a high likelihood of winning another given his age and the team around him as well does Matt Ryan.  Flacco and Romo, however, are probably past their prime and won’t get another one in the future.

Matt Ryan has been among the top quarterbacks in the league since he started.  I honestly think the amount of money any quarterback is paid these days, but if that’s market price for a good quarterbacks, Matt Ryan deserves every penny of it.
