Report: Atlanta Falcons’ Brooks Reed out six weeks

Concerning news for the Atlanta Falcons has linebacker Brooks Reed will be out for six weeks, per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. This is a big blow for the Falcons as they look to revamp a pass defense that ranked dead last in 2014.

Reed was signed by Atlanta in free agency on a five year, $22 million contract along with Justin Durant. His loss will hurt the team in a big way as it looks to adapt to Dan Quinn’s style. Injuries are always going to strike, but the timing of this surgery isn’t ideal for the Falcons just one week away from the start of the regular season.

The Falcons’ defense had a strong preseason, with standout performances from Vic Beasley and Adrian Clayborn. Quinn will be hoping there will be enough playmakers to pick up the slack while Reed recovers.

In the first half of the season, the Falcons are set to face off against some top offenses. The Week 1 clash with the Eagles is among the toughest, but they also face the daunting prospect of trying to slow down the Giants, Cowboys and Saints in the first six weeks of the season.

One cliché we all hear so often is true for the Falcons now – next man up. What are your thoughts?
