Atlanta Falcons: Game balls for Week 4 blowout victory

facebooktwitterreddit

The hot start to the 2015 season by Dan Quinn and his Atlanta Falcons continues as they dominated the Texans in a 48-21 victory to improve to 4-0.

Despite the Texans’ record, the team still fielded arguably the best defensive linemen in the game with J.J. Watt along with his partner in crime, Jadeveon Clowney. The game as a whole showed some interesting factors in favor of the Falcons. Here are my selections to receive a game ball for their performances.

Devonta Freeman

The second year running back out of Florida State opened some eyes in Week 3 against Dallas by rushing for 141 yards and three touchdowns. Although Freeman didn’t crack the century mark in rushing against Houston, the versatile back totaled 149 all-purpose yards to go along with three more scores. The emergence of Freeman is paying off week by week.

Offensive line

Although Houston is ranked 22nd overall in rushing defense, it’s worth noting that the Falcons offensive line has not been a solid staple for the team over the past few seasons. However, the line created holes against a talented Texans front seven which helped produce 135 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

Leonard Hankerson

The league is on notice about the talent of Julio Jones. Yet, the play of Leonard Hankerson was a needed boost to the offense and showed it’s is not a one-man show. Hankerson provided a solid day with 103 yards and a touchdown.

Honorable Mention: Defense

I don’t want to hand out game balls to everybody but it is worth mentioning that the defense did something on Sunday that we haven’t seen in quite some time. The defense converted two turnovers into defensive touchdowns with fumble recoveries by Desmond Trufant and Nate Stupar. With an already deep offense, to see the defense chip in with two scores is a sight that pleases the entire Falcons fan base.
