According to the latest odds, the Atlanta Falcons have little hope of winning the Super Bowl in 2017.

According to the latest future odds by Vegas Insider, the Atlanta Falcons have little hope of winning Super Bowl LI next February.

The Falcons have been slapped with 50/1 odds – receiving the same odds are the Bears, Lions, Redskins and Saints. That’s the level Dan Quinn’s team is considered to be.

The usual suspects are favored to win: New England is the current favorite at 9/1, followed closely by Carolina, Seattle and Pittsburgh – all 10/1. Green Bay is 12/1 and Arizona is 15/1.

It’s hardly surprising to see the Falcons out of favor with the oddsmakers. Quinn’s team didn’t do enough in 2015 to inspire much confidence a Lombardi Trophy is imminent. After starting the season 5-0, Atlanta slipped to 3-8 in its final 11 games.

Heading into 2016, the focus has to be on the playoffs. The Falcons haven’t been to the postseason since 2012, and have instead had to deal with a 4-12, 6-10 and 8-8 seasons. With the record improving by two each year, the next logical step is to go 10-6 in 2016. That could be enough for a playoff berth.

NFC odds: Of the 16 NFC teams, the Falcons are ranked eighth with a 25/1 shot of winning the conference. The Seahawks are favorites at 9/2, with the Panthers close behind with 5/1 and the Packers at 6/1.

AFC odds: The Steelers are favored to win the AFC with 4/1 odds, followed by the Patriots at 9/2 and the Bengals at 15/2. The reigning champions, the Broncos, are fourth at 8/1, which highlights the difficulties they will face this offseason to keep the core of the team together.

Next: How close are the Falcons to the playoffs?

The Falcons aren’t given much love, but that doesn’t matter. It would be interesting to look at last year’s odds to see how much hope the Panthers were given. Nobody expected them to reach the Super Bowl after finishing the 2014 season 7-8-1.

In reality, the Atlanta Falcons need to be focused on simply making the playoffs.
